CLOW
CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We warmly welcome children to our Parish. At St. Anthony of Padua, children take part in Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation as a strengthening and development of their own Faith in the Church. They can also become Altar Servers and help with collections and processions.
The children in our Parish have their own Liturgy of the Word held during Sunday Mass. Children aged 0-11 leave the main mass for 20 minutes and go to the hall where Diocesan DBS cleared Catechists deliver the Liturgy via words, acting out and crafts in a way that the children can understand.
The children begin their Liturgy with their own welcome prayer, the lighting of the candle and the signing of the cross. This follows with an opening introduction on the theme of the gospel, and then the children listen to the gospel itself which has been deciphered into language that they can assimilate. This is followed by discussion on what the gospel meant that day such as how it might relate to other gospels, and finally an activity creating something which reflects what they have learnt in their Liturgy. The children return to Mass and deliver their gifts at the Presentation of Gifts.
We follow the program The Liturgy of the Word with Children: A Complete Three-Year Program Following the Lectionary by Katie Thompson. We do not hold CLOW on Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and during August.
